Lesson 5 – Butterfly Pose

Parents:
Please read the following instructions to your child while he/she practices the butterfly pose.
Tip: It’s helpful to use a calm voice and slow pace
Instructions:
- Sit on your bottom with your legs straight out in front of you.
- Bend one leg so the bottom of your foot rests against your other leg.
- Bring the other leg in so your feet are touching.
- Place your hands on your feet to hold your feet together
- Sit up tall and straight
- Gently lift and lower your knees like a butterfly flapping its wings
- Flap your wings slowly and say “I am a butterfly.”

While you hold the butterfly pose, practice the Extended Exhale technique from Lesson 1. Hold your pose for at least three breaths before you release.
Parents: Please count with your child.
Practice this pose once a day or as many times as you wish.
Modification: Hold your butterfly pose still without flapping your butterfly wings. Make sure you keep your back straight.
Challenge: Keep your back straight and close your eyes while breathing in and out as slowly as you can.
