Lesson 4 – Tree Pose

Parents:
Please read the following instructions to your child while he/she practices the tree pose.
Tip: It’s helpful to use a calm voice and slow pace

Instructions:

  • Stand tall and straight
  • Look straight ahead
  • Touch your palms together and keep them in front of your chest
  • Slowly lift one leg and place your foot on the side of your other knee
  • Keeping your palms together, slowly reach your arms up to the sky (like the sun pose)
  • Keep your body as tall and still as possible (like a tree) and say “I am a tree.”
  • Release. Shake out your arms and legs.
  • When you are ready, try again with the other foot

While you hold the tree pose, practice the Extended Exhale technique from Lesson 1. Hold your pose for at least one breath before you release.
Parents: Please count with your child.

Practice this pose once a day on both legs or as many times as you wish.

Modification: If you find it difficult to balance, keep your palms in front of your chest instead of straight up in the air.

Challenge 1: Try to hold your pose for as many breaths as you can without losing your balance.

Challenge 2: Try to lift your foot higher and touch your thigh.
